Colourful Home in Inglewood
Colour Consultation | Resale Redesign | Home Staging
It is not often we get a client calling us early enough in advance to make real changes to their home before they sell (what we call a resale redesign). Andrea McKen recommended us to her Inglewood clients who had a very colourful home and let us know they were open to painting before they listed – which turned out to be a game changer. The clients loved a colourful and bold house, but knew that selling was a different story. We completed a staging consultation including a painting consult where we selected new neutral colours for throughout the house. We also made plans for furniture rearrangement as well as rentals to fill in some gaps and show each room in its best light. The results were before & after photos that we absolutely cannot get over, and, more importantly a sale after only 7 days on market for 97.4% of the list price at $1,130,000.
I am fairly confident they would not have had the same success had they not invested in painting and staging.

Living Room
As part of their colourful home, the client had this absolutely stunning purple couch. I was so excited to incorporate it in the design, but it was not getting showcased how it needed to for a cohesive space. We moved their blue damaske wingback chairs to the sitting room and rented 2 lower profile creamy chairs that not only matched the couch better, but gave better views of the thick green established trees out the patio doors.
I also found this perfect floral art at WINS the weekend before and snatched it up specifically for this spot.
We also wapped the drapery between the bedroom and living room (which was thankfully already down from painting and the same length), tieing seemlessly into the new creamy wall paint.
The rug, coffee tables, side tables, and lamp were theirs.
And of coruse, as a finishing touch we styled with throw pillows, blankets, and decor for the coffee tables.

Dining Room
The dining room was also covered in a new coat of paint to match the rest of the main floor walls. While I do wish we could have kept the beautiful trim on the ceiling a pop of colour, that was for the new home owners to decide – netural and large is our game in staging.
We lightly styled their existing dinign set, and swapped the framless mirror (which again was thankfully removed for painting) for a more neutral soft artpiece.
This room was offset with a colourful floral piece of art and the client’s gold table across the hallway, seen as you come up the stairs from the front door.

Sitting Room (Fireplace)
The blue wall colour in this sitting room was not a deal breaker in this colourful home, however we wanted to create flow and therefore brought the creamy wall paint through. Another reason for painting this area was because the blue paint made the oak look even more orange, so our Neutral Ground paint colour with a green undertone helped offset this oak fireplace.
These chairs were the client’s, two from this space and two from the front living room. We brought in a new larger and more fitting area rug, artwork to flank the fireplace, and decor to fill the large tv space above the fireplace. We rented coffee and side tables to create a cozy round seating area and styled them minimally. I didn’t love that their existing couch protruded past the wall on the stairs, and moving it to the window side would have meant blocking the view of the greenhouse. Since there was already a living room with a couch at the front, this room served to tell the story of family time around the fire, with conversation being the center stage.
This room turned out sophisticated and definitely enhanced the fireplace and other architectural features.

Kitchen & Breakfast Nook
The kitchen was simply decluttered and lightly styled. While we were staging the client was going through her cabinets and we were able to fill a full box for WINS, which we brought with us to donate when we left.
In the breakfast nook rented bar stools for the peninsula (to show there was space to do so) and hung smaller ligjhter art and styled the table.
The paint was brought through this area to complete the main floor.

Primary Bedroom
I absolutely love how the bedroom turned out, and not because I spec’d my favourite bedroom paint colour – Mount Saint Anne.
We used all of the client’s existing furniture (including bringing the matching side table back in from another room), except for the rental of a lovely bench to nestle into the large cove window.
I also love the blue/silver drapers that was in the living room and how it ties so perfeclty into the new blue wall paint.
We also styled with bedside lamps, art, and decor, all while the client ran out to get white bedding (of which he made a gread choice!).

Guest Bedrooms
No paint needed here. We kept the blue and purple walls of theses rooms and simply did some styling and rearranging. The client loved the bold art we brought in to both rooms, especially the panther. We gave these two rooms very different vibes to show the personality of this previously colourful home.

Primary Bathroom
Lime green and blue were quite nearly an assault on the senses, especially coming from such a tranquil bedroom. So we carried through the Mount Saint Anne paint colour through to the primary bathroom, which tied in lovely to the blue shower tile. It also served the purpose of making the floor tile and cabinets look a lot less yellow, Bonus!
