When I was deciding to close down my marketing company and transition into interior decorating, I started researching online schools I could complete remotely. I found QC Design School, through which I completed their Interior Decorating and Staging for Designers courses in only a few short months (I’m a keener). And so began my new career.

So, when I was asked to be interviewed by the school as part of their Graduate Features, I jumped on the opportunity – eager to inspire other students to do what they love.

“Owning a Business is a Beast of its Own”

As someone who’s owned businesses in different industries for the last handful of years, the thoughtful questions throughout this interview allowed me to press pause and reflect, which I appreciated.

Aside from discussing my experience at QC Design School and why I enrolled in the first place, we dove deep into Unshelf’s services (including Designer for a Day), as well as how my business was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because of the in-depth questions and advice provided in the piece, I feel that this article will be valuable to people thinking about starting their own design business (or any business for that matter). In fact, since it has been published, I have had a number of local eager students reach out for internships and to discuss entrepreneurship – my favourite topic of discussion.

Why I chose QC Design School

First of all, this institution is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and students have access to reputable design associations – merits that not all schools have.

Furthermore, their online courses gave me flexibility, which as a full-time business owner, was completely necessary.

The lessons and feedback from the instructors was invaluable and in my opinion were the reason I learned what I did.

Lastly, QC offers excellent career resources for students and grads, including lifetime access to their student center.

Thanks so much for the feature QC Design School (special shoutout to Sloane) – be sure to check out the full article now!
